骨強度(Bone Strength)包含了骨密度(Bone Mineral Density)以及骨品質(Bone Quality)兩個部分。
目前醫學技術上還無法臨床直接測定骨骼的強度(其實可以使用侵犯性的直接採檢Bone Biopsy),因此臨床上通常會採用間接測定骨密度(或者是骨轉換酵素 Bone Turnover Biomarker)的方式來作為骨質疏鬆症的臨床診斷及評估,作為客觀量化的指標。
Prolia® 的直接採檢研究(Bone Biopsy),是由Fracture REduction Evaluation of Denosumab in Osteoporosis Every 6 Months(FREEDOM)(Cummings SR 2009, Brown JP 2012)和 and Study of Transitioning from AleNdronate to Denosumab (STAND)(Kendler DL 2009)衍生來的 (Reid IR 2010)。
