How to Get a Drone License in Taiwan
Are you interested in aerial photography, agricultural spraying, or taking freelance drone projects? In Taiwan, operating drones over 2 kg legally requires an official operator license!
To get a drone license in Taiwan, your first step is to pass the CAA's "Drone Written Exam."
There are two types of written exams:
|
Exam Type |

Certificate Eligible After Passing |
|
General |
Hobbyists flying drones 2~15kg, non-commercial |
General Certificate |
|
Professional |
Commercial aerial work, night flight, agriculture |
Professional Basic / Advanced Certificate |

Note:
If you plan to apply for a Professional Basic or Professional Advanced Certificate, you must take the Professional Exam.

After completing the subject examination (學科), if you obtain a "professional operation certificate(專業學科)", you can then take the "practical examination"(術科).
1.Pass Professional Written Exam
2.Pass Professional Basic Flight Test
3.Then take Professional Advanced Flight Test

Your drone's weight impacts which certificate type you should apply for.
Example: If you plan to fly a 2–15kg drone and conduct night missions, you'll need a Professional Advanced License, specifically Group G1.

G2 |

Note:
Having an advanced certificate does not automatically grant unrestricted flight. You must apply as a Legal Entity(法人) to unlock specific flight zones (e.g. above 400 ft, spraying missions).

In Taiwan, any commercial drone operation (agriculture, night filming, public events) must be filed under a Legal Entity such as:
A registered company
An organization or foundation

Step 1: Choose Exam Type
Want Professional Certificate → take Professional Written Exam
Only need General License → take General Exam
Step 2: Confirm Your Drone's Weight
Certificate type is based on drone weight
Step 3: For Advanced License, Select G1 / G2 / G3 Group
G1: Night flights / Beyond Visual Line of Sight.
G2: Spraying / payload drop
G3: Flights over people/crowds
Step 4: After Written Exam, Take Corresponding Flight Test
Congrats! You now understand Taiwan’s full drone license process.
Whether you're just starting aerial photography, switching careers into drone spraying, or aiming for commercial contracts—you can now move forward step by step.
